Sky Cry

While I have been reading my friends list (mostly news and comics, to be honest), I haven't been updating my LJ for a long time now.

A lot of things have happened since... since I don't know when. So here are some news for those, who care:

Hey, I'm 23 already! Thanks to all, who still remembers me, some have pleasantly surprised me. Personally, I'm not the person to care about traditions and rituals, I'm the kind of guy that would rather give no present, than give a present that would be kept on a shelf and hated (since it's horrible and you can't throw a way a present, right?) - and I expect the same from others. But I know society loves this kind of stuff, so I have to play by these rules.

I'm Czech now! I have finally received Czech citizenship and given up the Russian one. I guess I officially belong here now, there really is no turning back. Not that I ever wanted to go back, the decision was an extremely easy one, indeed.

I'm almost finished with my studies! After acquiring Bachelor degree and proceeding for Master's, I have completed all the subjects, passed my minor specialization state exam (which is Psychology and sociology in management, by the way - awesome stuff!!) and all that's left is to write and defend my diploma thesis plus major's state exam. I'm almost there, but...

I found a job! Well, I had a job already, but that job didn't pay much and had zero perspective for me. This one gives me a lot of potential. I'm going to sign the contract tomorrow, but there shouldn't be any complications. One never knows, though, can't relax now. The problem is full time job will leave little time for writing the mentioned thesis, so this will be tough.

Anyway, a lot of things have happened, and a lot more are going to happen. So many things left undone in this life of mine, so, as usual, I regret I'm just a human with such a short average lifespan. I don't think I'll have time to update this journal in the future, but thanks for remembering me, it does mean a lot to me! (Though I'm used to not letting anyone know ;)

What motivates you?

It seems pride is one of the better motivators - you set up a certain level for yourself and tell yourself you can't fall below it. If you were to fall below it, you'll be like those "lower level" people - you don't want to be like them, you take pride in being better than them. Hence you do what you have to do, even if you actually don't want to.

Spent two hours on this game... I always loved puzzle games like this.

A good manager is someone who knows which person to hire, what work to give him, etc.

A good leader is someone who can pull the best out of that person, making him more productive and happier at the same time.

But what about oneself? Managing oneself is rather easy with just some analytical thinking - you already know your best and worst sides, even those you haven't told anyone else. And then it's just a matter of assigning the work that suits you best. But what about leading oneself? How can you pull the best out of yourself, making yourself more productive, yet happier at the same time?

That's the tricky part...

The good parts overweight the bad ones... although life without garlic is hard to imagine. :D

Why does Evil win?
Say you have 10 good guys and 5 evil guys. Both good and evil a equally strong, so the power is balanced towards good ones. Good guys just want to live their lives, but the evil guys want domination. So the evil guys take a chance - for example something that could quadruple their strength, but only one in five will get away with it and others will die/get caught/whatever.

Now you have 10 good guys and one extra strong evil guy. Good guys just want to be left alone, so when faced with a choice to unite and kick evil guy's ass they decide to live in submission instead. After all, if they try to overthrow the evil guy, he might take several of them with him - and good guys don't want to take that chance (the chance that he, the one thinking, will be the one to die/whatever).

And that's the power of "taking that chance". People wonder how that certain someone got up there, but they don't realize how many others tried the same thing and failed. And that's not even taking effort into account.

I completely lack any enthusiasm lately. Work isn't as fun, since I don't learn much anymore and I mostly support instead of developing. Feels like it's time to move on.

But I can't just yet, since there's school. Supposed to be my last semester. Hopefully it will be my last semester. But I don't have any desire to do any of the school stuff either. There was the operating systems subject and we had a test where we had to do some tasks in linux. It was the most fun thing during the whole semester. Now the theory part of the subject starts, so it's becoming extremely boring yet again.

I need another source of, well, enthusiasm. Some kind of inspiration. And the sooner the better...

The more I do to get rid of russian citizenship and acquire czech citizenship, the more I understand why the heck I am doing it...

Today I got a letter from tax service (or whatever is it called) dated 27.02.2007 (yes, it took over a month to receive it). It goes like - very rough translation - [me] as of 22.02.2007 doesn't have any unpaid taxes, dues, fines and tax sanctions that need to be paid in accordance with current laws. Well, except it just says *does* have unpaid taxes, etc. No explanations of why, how or anything at all. And that's considering I left the country when I was twelve, hence it's hard to imagine how can I possibly owe any taxes at all.

Now I have to find out what exactly it is that I owe - how much and what for. Then pay it. Then ask for another letter like that. And preferably without leaving the country. I wonder if I'll manage in the 18 month time limit I was given along with czech promise of citizenship. I thought 18 months is plenty of time, now I've changed my mind.

So anyone got LJ-talk up and running yet?
Now I have two jabber accounts already - gtalk and ljtalk. Had to find a way to stick them both into miranda and now it works nicely.

I just realized I had completely forgotten to register a subject I really wanted to have this semester. It's kinda scary. I wanted it the most, yet it was the only one not auto-registered. But I'm already at 7th term, so if I just realized in time, I'd get it for sure. Well, instead it took me about a month to just recall about it. How could I want something so much and yet completely fail to remember? It's kind of depressing.

The thought, that I might miss something really important just like that, is what I'm afraid of.
